Are you missing one or more teeth? It can make everyday things like eating and speaking feel uncomfortable. Dental implants are a fantastic, long-lasting solution to get your smile back and help your mouth work the way it should. Dr. Masha Pelts uses durable, natural-looking implants to give you the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted.

Schedule your dental implant consultation today!

What are Dental Implants?

Think of dental implants as tiny titanium posts that are placed in your jawbone, acting just like the roots of a natural tooth. They securely hold replacement teeth in place, so they look, feel, and function just like the real thing.

Because the implant fuses directly with your jawbone—a process called osseointegration—it becomes incredibly stable and long-lasting. This also helps preserve your jawbone’s density, which is great for your facial structure. With implants, you can get back to chewing your favorite foods and speaking with ease, all with a confident, natural-looking smile.

Why Choose Masha Pelts DDS for Dental Implants?

Here are a few reasons our patients trust us:

At Masha Pelts DDS, Dr. Pelts handles your treatment personally, focusing on one-on-one care and precision.

We create a personalized treatment plan based on your unique oral health and anatomy.

We use advanced diagnostic tools like CBCT 3D imaging. This technology guides the entire process, ensuring your implant is placed safely and precisely.

Dental Implant Procedure Overview

Initial Consultation and Imaging

The implant process starts with a thorough consultation. We’ll take detailed X-rays to check your jawbone health and quality. Sometimes, preparatory steps like a tooth extraction or bone grafting might be needed to set you up for the best possible outcome.

Implant Placement Surgery

The placement surgery is a straightforward procedure. It involves making a small opening in your gum to access the bone, where the titanium post is then carefully placed. The healing process takes a few months, during which osseointegration happens—that’s when your jawbone naturally fuses with the implant, creating a super-strong foundation.

Healing Period and Restoration

Once the implant has fully healed, we’ll place a small connector piece called an abutment on top of it. This serves as the anchor for your new custom tooth. After a short recovery, we’ll take impressions to create a crown, bridge, or denture that perfectly matches the color and shape of your natural teeth.

Follow-Up Care

Regular follow-up care helps us track your progress and make sure your implant and your smile stay healthy for years to come.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Chew comfortably and speak clearly again.

Helps maintain the health of your jawbone.

A stable, long-lasting solution—often more so than traditional dentures or bridges.

Looks and feels natural, boosting your confidence.

Worried about your next dental visit? We get it. That’s why we’re excited to offer laser dentistry—a gentle, precise technology that makes your experience as comfortable as possible. At our clinic, you’ll find modern dental solutions from a team that’s both expert and compassionate.

What is Laser Dentistry?

Laser dentistry uses a highly focused beam of light to perform dental treatments with incredible precision. Think of it as a modern alternative to traditional drills and scalpels, offering a much less invasive and more comfortable way to care for your smile.

Because the laser is so precise, it minimizes bleeding and swelling and even lowers the risk of infection. It targets only the affected tissue, which means you get to enjoy a much faster healing time.

Many patients find the experience so much less stressful that they may not even need anesthesia. It’s a great way to ease dental fears and have a more relaxed visit.

Why Choose Laser Dentistry at Masha Pelts DDS?

At Masha Pelts DDS, we combine our skill with innovative technology, and our focus is always on you.

We specialize in gentle treatments, making our practice a perfect fit for anyone with dental anxiety.

We use the advanced Solea laser system to ensure every procedure is as precise and comfortable as it can be.

Our commitment to safety and excellence has earned us a trusted reputation in our community, making us a top choice for state-of-the-art laser dental care.

Common Laser Dental Treatments

Laser dentistry is incredibly versatile! We can use it for a wide range of treatments, such as:

Gum Treatments: We can reshape gums and treat gum disease with minimal bleeding and a quick recovery.

Cavity Removal & Fillings: Lasers allow us to remove decay with amazing accuracy, preserving more of your healthy tooth structure.

Teeth Whitening: Laser whitening can give you brighter, faster results.

Soft Tissue Procedures: For things like biopsies or removing lesions, lasers mean less tissue damage and faster healing.

Benefits of Laser Dentistry

The benefits of using laser technology are pretty amazing for patients of all ages. Here are a few of our favorites:

More Comfortable Treatments: Many procedures are so comfortable they require little to no anesthesia.

Less Bleeding and Swelling: The laser helps seal blood vessels and sterilizes the area as it works.

Quicker Recovery: Because it’s so gentle on your tissues, you’ll heal faster.

Incredible Precision: The laser targets only the problem area, leaving healthy surrounding tissue untouched.

Great for Everyone: It’s an ideal choice for both kids and adults, especially those who are a bit nervous about dental work.

Everyone deserves a smile they feel great about. Here at Masha Pelts DDS, we offer advanced Invisalign and clear braces to help you get straighter teeth and a healthier bite. If you’re dealing with an overbite, underbite, or crooked teeth, we’re here to help.

Book your Invisalign consultation now!

What are Clear Braces and Invisalign?

Think of them as a modern, comfy alternative to traditional metal braces. Instead of brackets and wires, the Invisalign system uses a series of clear, removable aligners designed just for you. These aligners use gentle, controlled force to gradually shift your teeth into their ideal spot.

Invisalign aligners are practically invisible and can be taken out for meals, brushing, and flossing. This makes them a super convenient and non-invasive orthodontic solution for teens and adults alike.

Since there are no metal brackets, Invisalign is way less irritating to your cheeks and gums, and you won’t have to worry about any food restrictions. Plus, because you can remove the aligners, it’s so much easier to keep your teeth clean, which helps reduce the risk of plaque buildup that can happen with traditional braces.

Why Choose Masha Pelts DDS for Invisalign?

Dr. Masha Pelts is an experienced Invisalign provider who’s helped countless patients get the smile they’ve always dreamed of.

We take a personalized approach, using advanced digital scanning to create a treatment plan that’s tailored to you and your lifestyle.

Our patients often tell us how much they appreciate our friendly, professional care and our commitment to creating beautiful results.

Dr. Pelts combines her clinical expertise with the latest in clear aligner technology to give you predictable results that improve both the look and function of your smile.

How Does Invisalign Work?

It all starts with a detailed 3D scan of your teeth using our intraoral scanners—no more goopy, uncomfortable impressions! We use this scan to create a precise digital model of your smile.

Before you even start, we can show you a simulation of your final results, so you can see exactly what your new smile will look like.

Then, we create a series of custom-made aligners from a special material designed to apply gentle, consistent pressure.

You’ll wear each set of aligners for about one to two weeks, and they’ll gradually shift your teeth into their ideal positions.

You’ll have regular check-ins with Dr. Pelts to make sure everything’s on track and to make any adjustments needed along the way.

Benefits of Invisalign Over Braces

Here are a few reasons why so many teens and adults prefer Invisalign:

They’re practically invisible. Most people won’t even notice you’re wearing them!

Eat what you love. Since the aligners are removable, you can take them out for meals. No food restrictions!

Easy to keep clean. Brushing and flossing are a breeze because you can just pop your aligners out.

More comfortable. With no metal wires or brackets to poke your cheeks, they’re much more comfortable and mean fewer emergency visits.

…
Consuming walnuts could help mitigate the risk of colorectal cancer, according to a news report from UConn Today.

In a study published in Cancer Prevention Research, researchers examined the benefits of walnut intake among participants aged 40 to 65 years at risk of developing colorectal cancer. They collected blood, urine and fecal samples from the participants and asked them to complete the National Institutes of Health Food Frequency Questionnaire.

Previous studies have found that polyphenol compounds present in walnuts, known as ellagitannins, are converted into the anti-inflammatory metabolites urolithins. In the recent study, the researchers discovered that these ellagitannins could hold anticancer properties after a follow-up of three weeks. For instance, the heightened formation of urolithin A following walnut consumption signified declines in inflammatory markers across the study samples as well as reductions in proteins found in colon polyps.

The findings indicated the potential colonic health benefits of supplementing walnuts into the diet.
The post Walnuts and cancer risk first appeared on Masha Pelts DDS.

In a study published in Scientific Reports, investigators used a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire to examine the dietary habits of 150 patients with newly diagnosed knee osteoarthritis and 300 controls matched on the basis of age, sex and body mass index.

The investigators found that the participants in the highest quartile of dietary acid load scores — representing a greater intake of meats, whole and refined grains, dietary fiber, saturated fats and phosphorous as well as limited vegetables and fruits — had a greater risk of knee osteoarthritis compared with those in the lowest quartile.

The investigators suggested that mechanisms involved in the association could include heightened systemic inflammation and oxidative stress related to dietary patterns. However, further studies may be needed to better understand the relationship between dietary acid load and knee osteoarthritis.
The post Acidic Food and Osteoarthritis in Knees first appeared on Masha Pelts DDS.

New Research Reveals How Alcohol Affects Digestive Health

According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), alcohol use is responsible for more than 200 diseases, with over 50% of all alcohol-caused deaths being attributed to gastrointestinal diseases. The most frequent alcohol-attributable causes of death include liver cirrhosis (50%), pancreatitis (25%), and esophageal cancer (22%). Karger Publishers

The Metabolic Pathway to Disease

Recent findings published in the Journal of Translational Gastroenterology have identified acetaldehyde, a main metabolic product of chronic alcohol consumption, as a key factor in causing pathological changes in the digestive system. This toxic compound significantly increases the risk of morbidity through several mechanisms:

Acetaldehyde is the first, most toxic and carcinogenic metabolite of ethanol. When it accumulates in the body, the risk for upper gastrointestinal cancer increases substantially. Karger Publishers

The carcinogenic mechanisms are multiple, with acetaldehyde playing a key role due to its ability to cause DNA damage, alter telomere length, and induce reactive oxygen species (ROS). LWW

Risk Factors That Influence Damage Severity

Several factors can impact the degree of alcohol-related damage to the gastrointestinal system:

Dose and Duration: Alcohol use is associated with alcohol-related liver disease in a dose-dependent manner, with risk of cirrhosis substantially increasing in women who consume more than 24g and men who consume more than 36g of alcohol daily. ScienceDirect

Gender Differences: Women typically have higher blood alcohol levels after consuming similar doses as men, suggesting greater susceptibility to alcohol-related damage among women.

Genetic Predisposition: Genetic risk factors modify cancer risk, particularly genes coding for enzymes involved in ethanol metabolism such as alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH). Karger Publishers

Environmental Factors: Interactions with other substances, particularly tobacco, can multiply risk.

Nutritional Status: Poor nutrition can exacerbate alcohol-related damage.

Affected Organs and Associated Conditions

Alcohol-associated liver disease is the main cause of liver-related morbidity and mortality globally. Nature However, alcohol affects the entire digestive tract:

Oral Cavity: Stomatitis and periodontal disease

Esophagus: Moderate alcohol intake increases the risk of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. LWW Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Barrett’s esophagus

Stomach: Heavy alcohol intake is associated with an increased risk of gastric cancers. LWW Superficial and hemorrhagic gastritis

Intestines: Dysbiosis and malabsorption

Pancreas: Heavy alcohol intake is associated with an increased risk of pancreatic cancers. LWW Acute and chronic pancreatitis

Liver: The spectrum of alcohol-associated liver disease ranges from early asymptomatic liver injury to advanced disease with decompensation and portal hypertension. LWW

Gallbladder: Gallstones and cholecystitis

Recommendations for Prevention and Management

According to dietary guidelines, adults of legal drinking age can choose not to drink or to drink in moderation by limiting intake to two drinks or less per day for men and one drink or less per day for women, on days when alcohol is consumed. Nih

The American College of Gastroenterology recommends that the obese population should avoid alcohol consumption entirely due to increased risk of hepatic steatosis. Nih

Individuals with persistent gastrointestinal symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.

In patients with alcohol-associated hepatitis, alcohol rehabilitation after hospital discharge is associated with a 70% to 84% decrease in 30-day readmission rate, an 89% to 91% decrease in 30-day alcohol relapse, and an 80% reduction in mortality. Nih

Conclusion

The evidence clearly demonstrates that alcohol consumption significantly increases the risk of numerous gastrointestinal diseases and associated mortality. Minimizing alcohol intake is essential for digestive health, and those experiencing persistent symptoms should consult healthcare professionals promptly.
The post Alcohol Consumption Linked to Increased Risk of Gastrointestinal Diseases and Mortality first appeared on Masha Pelts DDS.

New Research Highlights Concerning Link Between Sugary Drink Consumption and Oral Cavity Cancer

A comprehensive study published March 13, 2025, in JAMA Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery has revealed a striking connection between sugar-sweetened beverage consumption and oral cancer risk in women. Researchers analyzed data from 162,602 women participating in the Nurses’ Health Study and Nurses’ Health Study II, following participants for 30 years. Medscape

Key Findings

The results are alarming: women who consumed one or more sugar-sweetened beverages daily had a 4.87 times higher risk of developing oral cavity cancer compared to those who consumed less than one such beverage monthly. This translates to an increase from 2 cases to 5 cases per 100,000 population — adding 3 more cases per 100,000. Medscape, Ovid

Most significantly, this increased risk persisted even when researchers limited their analysis to participants without traditional risk factors. When restricted to both nonsmokers or light smokers and nondrinkers or light drinkers, the risk of oral cavity cancer was even higher at 5.46 times the baseline risk. EatingWell, Ovid

Understanding the Connection

While sugar-sweetened beverages have previously been associated with colorectal and other gastrointestinal cancers, this study represents the first investigation into their connection with cancers of the head and neck. UPI The findings may help explain the increasing incidence of oral cavity cancer among individuals without traditional risk factors.

Dr. Arnaud Bewley, an associate professor who chairs the Department of Otolaryngology at UC-Davis Health, called the study “eye-opening” with “clear and compelling results.” He noted that “the high-sugar nature of the modern Western diet is being increasingly understood to be at the root of many chronic diseases.” UPI

Potential Mechanisms

Several mechanisms may explain how sugar-sweetened beverages increase oral cancer risk:

High sugar consumption can lead to periodontitis (gum disease), which is associated with oral cancer Ovid

Chronic inflammation from dental and gum disease may be a contributing factor UPI

Alterations in the oral microbiome (the community of bacteria in the mouth) could play a role UPI

Sugar may cause oral dysbiosis-inducing inflammation Ovid

Increases in blood glucose and insulin levels could contribute to carcinogenesis (cancer formation) Ovid

Implications for Public Health

Lead researcher Dr. Brittany Barber, assistant professor of otolaryngology head and neck surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine, emphasized that “Clinicians should be aware of both the oral health risks associated with consumption of sugary beverages and the emerging oral cavity cancer epidemic in women.” Heal-wa

This emerging data suggests that sugar-sweetened beverage intake could be an important factor in the development of oral cavity cancer, especially among women traditionally considered low-risk. The study emphasizes the need for further research in larger, more diverse populations. Oral Health Group

Limitations and Future Research

The authors acknowledge that the estimates lack precision due to the low number of events. Additionally, the study included only women, limiting generalizability to male patients. The study participants were primarily of European descent, necessitating examination of these associations in racially and ethnically diverse populations. Medscape

Prevention Recommendations

Based on these findings, consider these preventive measures:

Limit consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages

Choose water or unsweetened alternatives

Maintain excellent oral hygiene

Schedule regular dental check-ups

Be aware of oral cancer warning signs

About Oral Cavity Cancer

Oral cavity cancer is less common than breast or colon cancer, with an annual incidence of approximately 4-4.3 cases per 100,000. However, its incidence is increasing among nonsmokers and young individuals without traditional risk factors worldwide. UPI
